YouthStats® Student Sports Operations Team

Multiple Positions Available | Middle & High School Students

YouthStats® is a student-operated sports analytics, media, and event operations initiative designed to give middle and high school students real-world experience working inside competitive sports. Beginning with basketball and flag football, YouthStats® students will help operate leagues, tournaments, showcases, and special events while developing practical skills in statistics, leadership, media, administration, facility operations, and sports management.

We are seeking motivated, dependable, and professional students for a variety of roles. Students may be trained in more than one position and given opportunities to advance into leadership roles as they gain experience.

Available positions include: Statistician, Scorekeeper, League Commissioner, Equipment Manager, General Manager, Event Staff, Facilities Manager, Photographer, Videographer, Journalist, Correspondent, Play-by-Play Commentator, and Administrator.

Position Responsibilities

Statisticians and Scorekeepers will record official game statistics, maintain scorebooks, track player and team performance, verify game totals, and assist with postgame statistical reports.

League Commissioners and General Managers will help oversee assigned teams, divisions, schedules, standings, communication, game-day operations, staff assignments, and league policies. These positions are intended for students who demonstrate strong leadership and organizational skills.

Equipment Managers will prepare, distribute, inventory, maintain, and secure game equipment, uniforms, scorekeeping materials, media equipment, and other event supplies.

Event Staff will assist with check-in, admissions, team services, crowd direction, hospitality, setup, breakdown, customer service, and general game-day support.

Facilities Managers will help monitor courts, fields, seating areas, locker rooms, equipment areas, and common spaces while assisting YouthStats® leadership with facility readiness and event presentation.

Photographers and Videographers will capture game action, athlete features, interviews, event highlights, promotional content, and behind-the-scenes material for YouthStats® media platforms.

Journalists and Correspondents will write game recaps, player profiles, event stories, interviews, feature articles, league updates, and other sports-related content.

Play-by-Play Commentators will provide live or recorded game commentary, conduct interviews, assist with broadcasts, and develop skills in sports communication and on-camera presentation.

Administrators will assist with scheduling, data entry, rosters, player profiles, statistics verification, email communication, filing, event documentation, and general office support.

What Students Will Learn

YouthStats® is designed as a workforce-development experience, not simply a volunteer assignment. Students will gain practical exposure to sports business, analytics, media production, communications, technology, leadership, customer service, event management, and organizational operations.

Students may also have opportunities to rotate through multiple departments so they can discover which career areas interest them most.

Qualifications

Applicants should be current middle or high school students who are dependable, willing to learn, able to work as part of a team, and comfortable interacting professionally with athletes, coaches, parents, spectators, and staff. Previous sports knowledge is helpful but is not required for every position. Training will be provided.

Because YouthStats® handles official competition data and public-facing content, students must demonstrate accuracy, professionalism, integrity, punctuality, and respect for confidential or sensitive information.

Employment Structure

Positions may include paid employment, internships, work-based learning, volunteer service, or leadership-development opportunities, depending on the student's age, experience, school partnership, assigned role, and event.

YouthStats® will emphasize advancement from entry-level positions into supervisory and management responsibilities. A student may begin as an event assistant or scorekeeper and eventually progress into roles such as Lead Statistician, Media Director, Facility Supervisor, General Manager, or Student League Commissioner.
